I’m not an avid gardener, although I’ve had a vegetable garden at times in years past, but I know that we are more connected to the earth and her cycles than we may recognize at first glance! So here are some tips from Earth Gardeners that I’ve adapted for us Soul Gardeners™!
Plant now!
Some trees, shrubs and perennials benefit from getting a head start on their root growth and are farther along come spring.
- What indoor projects are good to get started now? How about giving yourself more meditation time with this inward-looking time of year?
Clean up Diseased Foliage…
Compost what you can, but get rid of the diseased plants so they won’t infect the soil next spring.
- Fall is a great time for decluttering!
- Some possibilities: Unloved and unused items around your home, habits of mindless eating, and being willing to become aware of and tone down the Mind Chatter that usually offers unhelpful feedback!!
Get a Soil Test
Adding needed nutrients that will enrich the soil…
- Take an afternoon for your own fall retreat to see if there are any areas in which you are feeling depleted, and reflect on what would be restorative.
Divide Plants
Dividing and moving some of the plants that have gotten too big or sharing them with friends who have more space…
- Take time to choose what you will say an authentic Yes to, rather than agreeing because it’s easier than to say No, or because you’ve “always done it that way”.
- Who else can help out with projects that have gotten out of hand? Who says you have to do everything!!
Taking the time to honor the rhythms and cycles of our lives is a blessing to us and to those around us!
How do you intend to honor yourself during this season of slowing down?
